Thirty years ago (on August 1, 1996), we opened the doors of Abeln, Magy & Associates (now Abeln, Magy, Underberg & Associates) with a simple goal: to help organizations find exceptional leaders.  A side yet very significant benefit turned out to be helping exceptional leaders find opportunities where they could make a difference.  We knew executive search would be about talent.  What we didn't fully appreciate was that it would ultimately be about relationships.

As we celebrate our 30th anniversary this coming month, our overwhelming feeling isn't pride – it's gratitude.

• To our clients, thank you for placing your trust in us.  Hiring a leader is one of the most important decisions an organization makes.  Time and again, you've invited us into your organizations, shared your challenges, and entrusted us with finding people who would help shape your future. We have never taken that responsibility lightly.
• To the executives and candidates we've had the privilege of working with, thank you for allowing us to be part of your professional journey.  Career decisions are deeply personal, and we appreciate the confidence you've placed in us over the years.
• To our colleagues/co-workers, partners and friends – past and present – thank you for your dedication, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to doing things the right way.  Every successful search has been the result of teamwork, integrity, and a shared belief that people matter.

Three Decades In The World Of Executive Search . . . . With More To Come!

Over the past three decades, the business world has changed dramatically.  We've witnessed economic booms and recessions, technological revolutions, changing workforce expectations, and an evolving definition of leadership.  Through it all, one truth has remained constant: organizations succeed because of great people.

That belief has guided us for 30 years, and it will continue to guide us in the years ahead.

Many of the relationships we began decades ago continue today.  If someone had told me 30 years ago that many of our clients would become friends, and many of our candidates would one day become clients, I probably wouldn't have believed them. Yet that's been one of the greatest rewards of this profession.  Clients have indeed become trusted friends.  Candidates have indeed become clients.  Referrals have become lasting partnerships.  Those relationships have been the greatest reward of this journey.

Anniversaries naturally encourage reflection, but they also inspire optimism.  We remain excited about continuing to help organizations build exceptional leadership teams and helping talented professionals take the next step in their careers.
